DSRC APPLICATIONS

The North American DSRC program is intended to support a wide range of applications, of which only a small subset are presently defined. The intent is to support a wide range of roadside-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle communications, for which most of the explicit applications cannot even be envisioned today.

For example applications, see those for which the technical communications requirements were defined, in the concepts briefing.

Classes of Applications

There are five basic classes of applications. Just as there are multiple interpretations of what ITS means, there are also many different categories of ITS Applications. In general, these fall into one of these five classes. As specific applications are examined, it is not always possible to fit it into a single class and occasionally an application doesn't seem to fit into any of these. Defining the classes is simply a means of organizing discussions about applications and not an absolute definition.
